NFL Star Rookie Matthew Golden Surprises Grandmother with New Home with Help of REMAX

When Matthew Golden, a standout wide receiver from the University of Texas, was asked during media interviews this spring how he would use his NFL signing bonus, he replied, “Definitely get my grandma a house.

“For me, it’s always been about giving back to my people. To be able to do that, it would be the biggest purchase for me,” Golden said at the time.

Just a few months later, his grandmother Penny – with tears in her eyes and gratitude written across her face – held the keys to her new home, purchased by Golden who worked with REMAX affiliate Nimesh Patel during the process. Patel, Broker/Owner of REMAX Fine Properties in Texas, was eager to help the NFL rookie achieve his dream – and quickly, ahead of training camp that would start in late summer.

“It was such a blessing to work with REMAX and Nimesh to help me achieve this goal. My grandmother has done so much for me, and I’m humbled to be able to give back to her in this way,” Golden says.

Finding a Way Home

According to Golden, his family lost the home he grew up in a few years ago. With other family members living nearby, it was important to him to repurchase the family home or find an even better home close by.

So when Golden was selected by the Green Bay Packers during the first round of the NFL draft in May, he knew he would be able to fulfill his promise. He just needed to find the right real estate professional to guide him through the homebuying journey.

Patel, who has been with the REMAX brand – the No. 1 name in real estate1 – since 2002, was an obvious choice. A seasoned professional, Patel embodies the spirit of REMAX, which is consistently voted the real estate brand with the most trusted agents2, is the most productive real estate brand in the world3 and is home to professional, full-time agents.

“As a fellow University of Texas alum, it was an honor and pleasure to help Matthew achieve this dream,” Patel says. “We navigated some challenges in the process, but we’re thrilled with the outcome that resulted from our hard work – a new home for the Golden family.”

Returning to Roots

After weeks of searching and negotiating, Golden found the perfect home for his grandmother, one that fit her needs better than the original home. It’s the perfect ending to a journey that means so much to so many in the Golden family.

“While we weren’t able to purchase our family home, we’ve found a house in an area that’s also meaningful to me,” Golden says. “Home is where my family is, and I’m excited for us to enjoy many meals, holidays and football watch parties together.”

Patel donated 100% of the commission earned to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, where donations remain local. Thanks to his generosity and commitment to the community, the money will benefit Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. The timing was fitting, as August marks REMAX Month of Miracles, which honors the contributions of REMAX affiliates to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Since 1992, REMAX affiliates have donated more than $218 million to the organization to support children’s health in the U.S. and Canada.

“What makes this move truly special is that it’s not just a new house, but a return to familiar roots. Matthew has deep ties to the area, and with his family all nearby, this home will be the backdrop for countless new memories in a place that already holds so much meaning for them,” Patel says.

The entire homebuying journey is documented in the “Get Golden Home” documentary on YouTube. Fans can follow along from start to finish, as Patel guides Golden through the ups and downs of the often-emotional real estate process, on REMAX social channels, including Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
